　Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, Shenzhen has developed rapidly, creating a great miracle that makes the world look at it with new eyes. Shenzhen today is the epitome and witness of the significant historical change and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Through the sharing of compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan areas of China and the sharing of international friends, this column tells about their experiences and feelings of studying, working, living and starting a business in Shenzhen. It shows the Shenzhen temperament of daring to venture, openness and inclusiveness, being pragmatic and law-abiding, pursuing excellence, and Shenzhen’s charm of being suitable for living, business and tourism. Under the historic opportunity of building the first pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, Shenzhen is starting a new journey with the momentum of 「reform does not stop, opening up does not stop「, and as a tribute to the centenary of the CPC.

　「來了就是深圳人，來了就當志願者。」深圳有超過186萬名志願者。這些「紅馬甲」們，活躍在城市的大街小巷，深入到人們生活的各個角落中。經過多年的發展，「紅馬甲」已然為這個時代留下最為精彩的注腳。

　來自加納的弗朗西斯便是這百萬「紅馬甲」大軍中的一員，他是寶安國際青年志願服務U站站長，在深圳工作已有17年，是名副其實的「深圳通」。他用流利的中文為市民服務，帮助外國人融入社區，同時傳播中國文化，以熱心傳遞使命，以熱情回饋城市。如今，弗朗西斯通過志願者的工作，不僅拓寬了朋友圈，而且獲得了內心的滿足感。

　熱情的服務態度、活潑開朗的性格是弗朗西斯的真實寫照。2004年，弗朗西斯因旅遊來到深圳，當即被深圳人的熱情好客和深圳的城市魅力所吸引，於是，他決定留下來。幸運的是，因為擁有教师資格證，弗朗西斯成為中英公學的一名教师。當然，最令他驕傲的身份是--深圳志願者。

　在弗朗西斯看來，在深圳作為一名外籍志願者最深刻的感受，就是「在生活中，當你使別人感到高興時，你就會獲得內心的滿足。這就像即使你很難過或者家裏的事讓你難過，當你出去做志願者工作時，你會得到他人的陪伴，就會感覺到總有人在你身邊」。

　弗朗西斯認為，在深圳當志願者是非常幸運的事。

　志願者工作，弗朗西斯一干就是十多年。在花卉博覽會、大運會等深圳許多重大活動中都能看到他的身影，他還組織過兒童夏令營活動，在相關政府單位協助辦理公司登記，在為外籍人士組織的活動中積極分享中國文化。在弗朗西斯眼中，志願服務是人們自我發現與重塑社會責任感的有效途徑，也是外國人對社會以及這座城市表達感謝的一種方式。

　「我喜歡深圳志願者的熱情和敬業，即使是學生們也非常渴望為城市服務。」弗朗西斯認為，在深圳當志願者是非常幸運的事，城市充斥着正能量的氛圍。「政府採取了很多措施帮助外籍人士融入各個社區，就其本身而言，這實際上是一種讓外國人了解以及向全球推廣中國文化的一種方法，讓世界真正看到優良和真實的中國文化。」

　成為一名志願者後，弗朗西斯的生活也有了很多變化。「我在做志願者工作期間遇到了很多人，結識了很多良师益友，他們總是支持著我這樣一個外國人，這本身就是一個很富有正能量的標誌。你會感到你屬於這個社區，你和這些人、你的鄰居都是一家人，這也带給了我一種安全感、一種手足情誼，讓團隊成員之間形成一種良性的互動方式。」

　弗朗西斯表示，深圳作為全國第一個系統提出建設「志願者之城」的城市，「紅馬甲」是深圳一道靚麗的風景線，志願服務精神更是這座城市文明的體現。「我喜歡深圳志願者的熱情和熱心，以及志願者在深圳履行他們職責的職業精神。」

　Francis: voluntary service, beautiful scenery

　「If you come to Shenzhen, you are a Shenzhener; if you come to Shenzhen, be a volunteer. 」 There are more than 1.86 million volunteers in Shenzhen. These 「Red Vests」 (volunteers in Shenzhen usually wear red vests as uniforms) are active in the streets of the city and go deep into every corner of people's life. After years of development, 「Red Vests」has been the most beautiful footnotes for this era.

　Francis from Ghana is one of the 「Red Vests」. He is the Head of Bao'an International Youth Volunteer Service U station. He has been working in Shenzhen for 17 years and is worthy of the title of 「Expert of Shenzhen」. He serves the public with fluent Chinese, helps foreigners integrate into the community, spreads Chinese culture, delivers the mission with enthusiasm, and repays the city with passion. Nowadays, Francis not only makes many new friends but also gains inner satisfaction through voluntary work.

　The warm service attitude and lively and cheerful personality are accurate portrayals of Francis. In 2004, Francis came to Shenzhen for tourism. He was immediately attracted by the hospitality of the Shenzhen people and the city's charm, so he decided to stay. Fortunately, because of his teacher's qualification certificate, Francis became a teacher in the China-UK College. Of course, his most proud identity is Shenzhen volunteer.

　In Francis's opinion, the most profound feeling of being a foreign volunteer in Shenzhen is 「in life, when you make others feel happy, you will get inner satisfaction. It's like even if you're sad or something at home makes you sad when you go out for volunteering, you'll get other people's company and feel that there's always someone around you. 」

　Francis has been a volunteer for more than ten years. He can be seen in many significant events in Shenzhen, such as Flower Expo and Universiade. He has also organized children's summer camp activities, assisted in company registration in relevant government units, and actively shared Chinese culture in activities organized for foreigners. In Francis's eyes, voluntary service is an effective way for people to discover and reshape their sense of social responsibility. It is also a way for foreigners to express their gratitude to society and the city.

　「I like the enthusiasm and dedication of Shenzhen volunteers. Even the students are eager to serve the city.」 Francis believes that it's fortunate to be a volunteer in Shenzhen. The city is full of positive energy. 「The government has taken many measures to help foreigners integrate into various communities. As far as it is concerned, this is actually a way for foreigners to understand and promote Chinese culture to the world so that the world can really see the brilliant and real Chinese culture. 」

　After becoming a volunteer, Francis's life has changed a lot. 「During my voluntary work, I met a lot of people and made many good friends. They always supported me, a foreigner, which is a sign of positive energy. You will feel that you belong to this community. You, these people, and your neighbors are all family. It also brings me a sense of security, a kind of brotherhood, and a kind of positive interaction between team members. 」

　Francis said that Shenzhen is the first city in China to propose the development of a 「volunteer city」 systematically. The 「Red Vest「 is a beautiful sight in Shenzhen, and the spirit of voluntary service is the embodiment of the city's civilization. 「I like the warmheartedness and enthusiasm of Shenzhen volunteers and their professionalism in performing their duties. 」

　Francis praised the rapid development of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in the past 40 years. In the future, he hopes Shenzhen will continue to be inclusive and diversified and attract more graduates and foreigners to come here to seek their dreams.
